| Today's mission: Success! |
[Jul. 13th, 2008|07:44 pm] |
I dropped by the toy department of Bay Downtown Vancouver today, and was amply rewarded by the discovery of loads of new Bratz stock. Sorry I don't have a camera phone, but I took notes.
New Item! Bratz Kidz Concert Clubhouse: This is a 2-storey dollhouse entirely composed of folded and printed cardboard, which strikes me as somewhat lame. (Hopefully it's cheap to make up for it; I couldn't find a price tag or a price scanner.) More importantly though, it comes with a wicked awesome Kidz Katia doll, which is basically a green-eyed Kidz version of Girls Really Rock Jade. She's in snap-on plastic clothes: grey boots, pink jacket, silver miniskirt, headset.
Bratz World Familiez Yasmin & Her Mom: I guess the package pic I discovered yesterday was an early prototype, because now her name is just "Mom." Those are silver streaks in her hair, by the way. Hawt.
New Item! Lil' Bratz Surprise Locket: Big plasticky toy lockets with super-mini versions of Cloe and Yasmin. They're about 2 inches tall, if that, and they have real hair and tiny fabric dresses. They're fairly fairy-pixie-ish, though.
Bratz World playsets: I'm not really surprised that Cloe's furniture is no longer completely silvered. It's now white with some silvery details. Also, the goofy boudoir toques are gone: one of the rare instances where I'm glad to see the prototype hats disappear as per their usual custom. Yasmin's packaging exclaimed "Now with longer hair!" The bathtub and bed sets were also there, as was the Bratz World version of the RC cruiser. It looks like a new design to me: this one has a sleeker nose, rounded headlights, and I don't think I saw tailfins. Still retro, but no longer 50s. I'm sure some car enthusiast will take one look at it and identify exactly which vintage car it's modeled after.
Holiday Bratz: Good lord, Meygan's hat is hideous. That is all.
Girlz Really Rock Cloe, Yasmin and Jade: DAAAAAANG! I will be getting a Jade, that much is certain. (I may also get the Katia mentioned above.) My hands were already too full to grab her today, though. I bought a bunch of non-doll stuff, including some acrylic paints for that blank Baby Qee I've had for many months — holy crap, a year?
Other items spotted without further comment: Lil' Angelz Heavenly Hair Dana, Nighty Nite Cloe&Yasmin, Dress Up Kidz C&Y, Snap On C&Y, Snap On Kidz Boyz, GRR Guitar, Kidz Concert C&Y.
And yes, that Xpress It Yasmin is STILL THERE. For reference: Xpress It Yasmin was the very first Bratz doll I ever bought. And yes, I got it from the Bay as well. |

| BearBearQ Bratz? Nah. |
[Jun. 10th, 2007|10:29 pm] |
So. I bought a Baby Qee to customize today. I've got a few ideas, although I'm not about to start in on it until NaNoMango is done. I attempted to dress it in Baby Bratz clothes, but I was foiled by the Qee's utter lack of articulation. Also, the wings.
Also, there's a huge new Sakura Media store in Richmond Centre. My wallet is aching already.
Speaking of NaNoMango, I've only got 4 strips done so far. So, yeah, I've got a little catching up to do. On the upside, the pencils are far superior to my previous attempts. |

Itsy Bitsy Hair Flair Yasmin has a rather different face than any Babyz product I've seen before. Maybe it's a consequence of making a vinyl head soft enough for rooted hair, but it looks a bit Dollar Store Ripoff to me.
Bratz Kidz School Meygan looks rather brunette. And she's another victim of Missing Hat Syndrome.
Bratz Super Babyz Jade. This is the regular five-inch version. It's hard to see her costume at all, but I'm wondering if that's a fabric costume I'm seeing.
Someone's already made his own custom Bratz Super Babyz, but it looks like the page is down. The Google cache makes it look like there was quite a nice assortment of characters, too. |

| Catching up part 3: eBay trawling etc. |
[Oct. 29th, 2006|09:29 pm] |
These are just random auctions and web links:
Sam's Club Diamondz Yasmin regular and Babyz double pack, Diamondz Cloe regular and Babyz double pack.
Bratz Kidz Sleep Over Adventure dolls.
Bratz Kidz Tandem Bike with Yasmin & Cloe.
Bratz Babyz Holiday Lela. Bratz Babyz Holiday Nola. Both Target exclusives. OK, those are adorable.
And now here's something seriously f'ed up: Bratz heads on "anatomically correct" Playboy figurine bodies. (How anatomically correct can they be without any, uh, camel toe? That's Playboy for you, I guess.) At the scale they're at, the Bratz heads actually look too small. Needless to say, these pics are generally Not Safe For Work. Jade, Yasmin.
The Sleepover Kidz are up on Walmart's site, but they've got photos of the old full-size slumber party Bratz instead. Whoops.
Over at Amazon, the Glitz & Glamour interactive DVD is up.
And a random corporate site is already bragging about having their Bratz Fashion Pixiez licensed goodies ready to roll out. |

| Dr. FrankenBratz |
[Aug. 15th, 2004|10:16 am] |
I'm partway through rerooting my original Girls Nite Out Dana. I'll be posting pix on BratzWorld when I'm done.
I'd heard people say that removing the hair from a Bratz was difficult, as the hair plugs are glued internally. Also, the heads seem quite hard and inflexible. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the head softens right up in warm water. It took me a long time to get her head cleaned out, but I had lots of tools to help: needle-nosed pliers, and a thin crochet hook. My hands, however, were wrinkled like raisins, and I was broiling, since it's not the kind of weather where you want to be looming over a sink full of steamy warm water!
I then de-painted her scalp with nail polish remover, which was smudgy and messy, and fraught with peril. If the dark brown paint smears, it seems to permanently integrate itself into the plastic... and the remover could remove her face paint as well, if I slipped. I masked off her hairline with masking tape, rolled the Q-tips gently, and ended up with a surface that was at least clean enough to paint over. I think I should have used some better nail polish remover, actually, but all's well that ends well.
I'm using standard craft-store bulk "curly hair" which I ironed flat. (Layer: Ironing board, hair, wet towel, iron on medium-low setting. Pull hair through until flat.) Looks like those big bags of hair are actually just one loooooong, thin curl! It's thin and a bit cranky upon combing, but sufficient for my purposes. I'm glad it irons so low, actually; that way I can use Puchimadam's method for flattening her bangs at a temperature that's a little less scary for that squishy little Bratz head. It still might melt her head, mind you, but these are the sacrifices we must make for science.
So now I'm just using a long doll needle to reroot. This is going to be the SLOWWWW part... |

| On customizing GNO Dana |
[Aug. 10th, 2004|09:26 pm] |
After freehand painting a few eyes, I'm a little more hesitant about giving Girls Nite Out Dana a complete repaint, as I initially intended. It may prove difficult to reproduce the Bratz-style eye I love so much, especially the eyelashes, and maintain symmetry too. I think I might have to figure out some way to make flippable stencils, either to trace guidelines onto the face with, or to just paint with directly.
There's also those Girls Nite Out rooted eyelashes to contend with. There's no way I could paint with the lashes in place, or else they'd become a gloppy mess. So then, I'd have to reroot the lashes. I don't think anyone else has done that on a GNO Bratz doll yet.
So I might just do a straightforward reroot on Dana. Meanwhile I have a Style It Cloe that I bought mostly for her shirts, so I may consider her as my future repaint test subject. Muhahahaha... |

| The elusive TaGG Jade |
[Aug. 8th, 2004|04:18 pm] |
I've hit several different stores this weekend in search of a TaGG Jade. (I must get TaGG Jade before I get Cloe, Yasmin or Sasha. This is more out of financial self-restraint than anything.) But the only ones I've seen locally are those same two I spotted last week with the screwy hair braids, which would drive me nuts and be totally unnoticeable to anyone else. Arrrgh.
Meanwhile, I did recieve my PD contest prize. (Thanks to sfb for organizing it and to everyone who voted!) It's the Bratz DVD, and Girls Nite Out Dana: the only GNO girl I already had. That's OK: I think she's not so dishevelled as my previous one, so I may take my old GNO Dana and customize her. I bought some white doll hair, and some acrylics today... and, in the process of painting some sample eyes, splortched some paint on my pink Drexoll Games t-shirt. AUGH! (Drexoll is run by a couple friends of mine. Plug plug plug)
I'll write my thoughts on the DVD later. Meanwhile, I'm going to nuke some baddies in City Of Heroes, which hopefully will release some of this frustration! |
